Randolph Scott Round-Up, Volume Two

The first color production from Columbia Pictures was "The Desperadoes" (1943), a western movie featuring Randolph Scott as a lawman who must assist his reformed outlaw friend, played by Glenn Ford, who is accused of robbing a bank. Claire Trevor also stars in the film. Following the Civil War, an ex-Confederate soldier (Scott) finds himself in conflict with his three brothers when he takes a job with the railroad and his siblings become involved with criminals planning to rob a train, in "Santa Fe" (1951), co-starring Janis Carter and Roy Roberts. "Man in the Saddle" (1951) showcases Scott as a cowboy caught between two women and a ruthless rancher who wants him eliminated, with Joan Leslie and Ellen Drew also starring. In "Hangman’s Knot" (1952), a Confederate officer portrayed by Scott leads a regiment on a raid of Yankee goods in Nevada, unaware that the Civil War has ended and now facing prosecution with his men, alongside Donna Reed and a young Lee Marvin. Furthermore, in "The Stranger Wore a Gun" (1953), Scott plays a former member of Quantrill’s Raiders who gets involved in his old comrade’s plan to hijack stagecoach gold shipments, along with Claire Trevor and Ernest Borgnine. This two-disc set also includes "The Nevadan," totaling 8 1/2 hours of entertainment.
